Green rhythms of life

Overview

The design of the landscaped rooftop was created with consideration of modern trends in landscape architecture. The main objective was to create a natural and visually appealing intensive green roof while minimizing the load on the structural slab.

Functionally, the green roof was divided into several zones:

  • A corporate relaxation area with a raised pergola providing shade on hot summer days.
  • A panoramic terrace with tables for lunch breaks.
  • Secluded spaces for private relaxation.

To establish a full-fledged rooftop garden, decorative trees were proposed for planting. However, due to structural constraints, trees could only be placed in areas with the highest load-bearing capacity—above the columns. To address this, multi-stemmed trees were selected, as they are recommended for rooftop use. These trees do not exceed 5 meters in height and exert minimal load on the roof.

For tree planting, a substrate layer of at least 600-700 mm was required. To accommodate this, metal retaining walls were designed to extend up to 600 mm. Beneath the trees, bands of Common Privet (Ligustrum vulgare) were planned, which remain semi-evergreen in our climate, retaining some foliage during winter.

All flower beds will be covered with evergreen Periwinkle (Vinca minor), which requires minimal maintenance compared to a traditional lawn. For perennials, ornamental Catmint (Nepeta) and Fountain Grass (Pennisetum) were chosen—both species remain decorative year-round and do not grow taller than 80 cm.
